1. What is CGPA?

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) represents the cumulative academic performance of a student across all semesters completed to date. While SGPA measures performance in a single term, CGPA is the weighted aggregate used for graduation rankings, degree awards, and corporate recruitment eligibility.

2. The Official AKTU CGPA Formula

CGPA is computed by weighting each semester's SGPA by the total credits registered in that semester:

CGPA = Σ (Cj × SGPAj) / Σ Cj

Where Cj is the total credits registered in semester j, and SGPAj is the SGPA achieved in semester j.

3. Converting AKTU CGPA to Percentage (%)

A common misconception among students is multiplying CGPA directly by 10 (or 9.5 as used by CBSE). Under the statutory circular approved by the AKTU Academic Council, the mandatory formula is:

Equivalent Percentage (%) = (CGPA - 0.75) × 10

Official AKTU Formula (Applicable to all B.Tech, B.Pharm, MBA, MCA, and M.Tech students).

CGPACalculation StepOfficial Percentage Equivalent
9.50(9.50 - 0.75) × 1087.50%
9.00(9.00 - 0.75) × 1082.50%
8.50(8.50 - 0.75) × 1077.50%
8.00(8.00 - 0.75) × 1072.50%
7.50(7.50 - 0.75) × 1067.50%

6.50(6.50 - 0.75) × 1057.50%
